Rentrée Basics

sculptureTO DO!

Your Week One work for me (if we are doing English together), no matter what course you are following with me, will start with you engaging with the materials on this page and getting used to Tonyversity and the materials related to your course. It will get you started with me and the ways we are going to be working together. You may also receive group emails from me which will direct you to further work which will be directly related to the specifics of the course you are taking with me. [You will certainly receive such emails if we head back into confinement..]

IF we do head back in that distance-learning

and teaching direction,

then you will find me pointing you to:

    • my video lectures and mini-lectures which you can download and watch at your pleasure [there were far too may problems during confinement of perhaps 15% of students who were not able to receive live-streamed lectures because of connectivity problems to envisage things ‘en-direct’].
    • web pages on your course pages of this website ‘Tonyversity’…. search by Faculty then by course name and look at the spring-out menus that appear…
    • assignments for you to do and submit in a variety of forms: hard copy, digital pages in Word, audio recordings, video recordings….
    • emails from me to remind you where you are and what you should be doing at any given point
    • email me if you are in need of clarification [or possibly Skypes / Zooms]
    • individual and team/group feedback – sometimes via general feedback pages on the Student area of Tonyversity or sent direct to you as email attachments, email comments or audio files.

So, here are some pre-recorded videos to watch if you were not able to attend the classroom ‘set-up session.

…..or if we head into confinement again….

These videos should add up to about your normal 2 hour class with me followed by an hour or two outside the class. Please do this before we really start the subject-specific material: it will help you get better marks! In class I will summarise these things and leave you to read what I couldn’t cover on my website …..

  • 1&2 are background that might help you understand what I’m trying to do and why…
  • 3&4 are general principles of how I want things to run
  • 5,6&7 offer you some practical advice and help
  • 8&9 are essential warnings about important issues like plagiarism and missing deadlines.

I trust you can get through this in the first week of your course…. then we can start work properly on matters relating to the particular subject we share, whether it be Professional English, Sustainable Development & Management, Museum and Archives Management, Culture & Tourism Management etc etc….

Sorry if it has been a bit ‘dry’ as a start, but by the end of your first week with me, I will be outlining the first ‘Block’ we will be working on together and then we can ‘get underway‘!!

1a. Rentrée (as it was in 2021- and could be again)

1b. Télétravail (as it was in Rentrée 2020)

NB. We are in the attendance mode in the Rentrée 2021-2022 thankfully and not on télétravail, but, for the record, this is how I set things up – and can do again if necessary.

I would also strongly recommend you take a close look at the following helpful links:

http://libguides.bournemouth.ac.uk/bu-referencing-harvard-style This gives a very helpful and easy to read guide to the Harvard system.

https://www.citethisforme.com/

You can throw ‘anything’ at this and it will produce the bibliographic reference in the form of your choice. No excuse for not attributing your sources then!!
