Research Fbk.
Here are some general comments on your work – in awhich I am trying to pinpoint areas that need attention…
6 or seven of you managed marks of 16/17. Well done. You followed instructions and did well.
At the bottom end I am afraid there were a considerable number who didn’t make the 10/20 threshhold, mainly by reason of failure to fiollow instructions.
So:
- Please follow instructions precisely – this is Master’s level after all
- I asked for proper use of the Harvard system and for a « quotation » for each of your A&O. I gave you links to a great site explaining how to use Harvard and to ‘citethisforme’. Many simply did not follow the instructions. Put your quotes in « ….. » and if they are long … italicise them and indent them for effect. You MUST then give (author surname, date). No need for the full bibliographic refernce in the text or in a footnate – just in the bibliog.
- If you don’t give your source in the text it is plagiarism!
- You must always enable the reader to look at a quote / paraphrase in the text and enable the reader to find it in the bibliography…. without (name, date) in the text the reader can’t do this.
- Try to write your A&O in the ‘active mode’: « To investigate, identify, consider ….. »
- Beware unsupported assertions in any research work – you can’t just say « X is the best on the market » unless you have proof!
