Interview and selection

How can one prepare for interview –   one can’t possibly know the questions?

This is where the Job Description [JD] and Person Specification [PS] come in.  If you compare yourself honestly and candidly with such details, then any ‘shortfall’ between you and the ‘ideal type’ they are searching is bound to be a question for any ‘switched-on’ interviewer.  You can expect that to get to interview all candidates will almost certainly have to possess all of the criteria judged as being ‘essential’ on the JD or PS…. so the ‘game’ becomes the ‘desirables’ how many of these do YOU possess compared to your competitors?   You need to be able to demonstrate the ‘desirables’ that you do have and, if possible, show that you are willing to work towards the others on the list (by taking training or professional exams for example)


So what is the role of the JD and PS and how do we use them?
