Don’t Forget Me

Don’t Forget Me

JULY -MintricoloreDSC00282Well. no, not ME … obviously!  This is Minty our first dog (left us 10 years ago).

JULY -MintricoloreThis is a song inspired by the reporting of a BBC journalist who wrote a recent story about young people who have simply (been) disappeared from the streets…. (in Cairo in this case) and I wondered how that would feel for the family of the disappeared.  I couldn’t hold on to the grief and the above all the fearful unknowing: it was too big, too overwhelming, too inaccessible, to impossible to contain.  Then the thought flipped… what would the ‘disappeared’  herself (Zubiea in this case) have felt, be feeling ….. ?   At that point it became accessible to me – the feelings of one  individual and the first line arrived with words and melody.   That is original for me… usually one or the other arrives on my plate, but this time it was the both….  Then over two days, the rest arrived…..

So, for AGEC students on their last day with me in class: here is a bit of creativity work in progress…..   I’ll bring in a guitar.  You have been warned!

Don’t Forget Me

Don’t forget me – though the nights are long

Don’t forget me – (you’ve got to) hold on strong

Just remember –  everything, everything I am

And Pray and Pray, and Pray I’ll be back again

And Pray and Pray, and Pray I’ll be back again.

Don’t forget me – though the nights are cold

Don’t Forget me – let my tales be told

Keep Believin’ – everything, everything I am

And Hope and Hope, and Hope I’ll come back again

And Hope and Hope, and Hope I’ll come back again.

But if I don’t :

You’ve got to find – a way to keep on going

If I don’t :

You’ve got to live my life for me

If I don’t :

Keep your eye – upon the far horizon

See me Rise, see me Rise, see me Rise with the morning sun

See me Rise, see me Rise, see me Rise with the morning sun

Don’t regret me – how can I regret you ?

Don’t regret me –  I’m a piece of you too.

Just remember –  everything, everything I am

And pray, and pray, and one day I’ll be home again

And pray, and pray, and one day  I’ll be home again.

Don’t regret me – though the pain runs deep

Don’t regret me – through the tears you weep

Guard the memories – of everything, everything I am

And pray, and pray,  pray the hope won’t hurt again

And pray, and pray, pray the hope won’t hurt again.

But if you can’t :

You’ve got to find – a way to keep on going.

If you can’t :

I can’t live (my life) for me

If you can’t :

We’ll keep our eyes on the far horizon

And we’ll rise and rise – to greet the morning sun

We’ll rise and rise – to meet in the morning sun.

We’ll rise and rise and rise and rise,

Yes we’ll rise and rise and rise and rise…

We’ll rise and rise : cry our tears in the mourning sun …..

We’ll rise and rise : dry our tears in the mourning sun.
