Repair Café. Fonderie Tues 22nd Nov 2022

Hi Folks!

You should have seen the email go out to the effect that we are set to hold our third Repair Café in the Fonderie Hall (en face des gradins) on Tuesday 22nd November.

We’ll be setting up around 10.30 to be fully operational by 11.00 and we will be there until 17h.

Bring us articles that need repairing!  If no parts are required, and a repair is possible then it will be entirely FREE of charge.  [If a part is required, you can decide whether you want us to purchase it subject to a monetary limit and go ahead with the repair. We would ask you to pay that sum at the end of the repair and you would be shown the invoice as proof when you collect your repaired article.]

The types of things we can repair:

  • small-ish electrical equipment (for example: coffee machines, Hoovers / Dysons, hair-driers, kettles, phones, toasters etc etc etc up to about the size of a mirowave)
  • Clothing & bags (pretty much anything ripped, with holes in, needing adjusting to size and other things one can repair with a sewing machine – a fabric bag for example)
  • Mechanical things like broken toys etc.
  • Bikes / VTT, trottinettes etc

How you register your article to be repaired.

  • Bring your article (one per person please) to the ‘gradins’ when you see us set up and ready (I’ll be on the Reception from 11h-14h.)
  • Fill in a form with your name, contact details, information on the article and the nature of the fault / breakdown / symptoms.
  • You might also want to fill in a tombola slip: the draw will be done at the end of the event and you could be going home with a nice bike that our experts have repaired and reconditioned.

What Then?

  • If you have a bit of time, then sit with the repairer who is looking at your broken article, he/she may be able to explain why the problem occurred and how to make sure it doesn’t happen again.  With any luck you may be able to walk away with the article functioning again!
  • If you have to go to class, come and register your article, then come and see us in a break between classes to pick up the article if we have been able to repair it.  Please don’t forget this!
  • If it turns out that the article is repairable but we need more time to do it or we have to get a special tool from our workshop, then, with your permission, we’ll take the article away to repair in Brunstatt then phone / email you to tell you it has been repaired. You will also be given a slip of paper with our contact number on so you can contact us if need be.

Earlier Repair Cafés

  • In our first Repiar Cafe at the Fonderie we were presented with 27 articles.
  • 25 were repaired during the event and two needed specialist tools and were returned a few days later: repaired.
  • That was exceptional / unique – 100% success record – normally we find that about 75% of articles are repairable and the vast majority of those are repaired during the event and a few have to head for our workshop.   Sadly, 25% are not repairable or are not economically sensible to repair.
  • So far we have ‘saved’ over 1000 items and some 4 tons of repairable stuff being thrown into landfill.

So: you have got NOTHING TO LOSE…

  • Have a think NOW what you might have that you would like us to look at and repair for you and put it to one side ‘ready’.
  • Write yourself a reminder for MONDAY 21st to put the item by the door so you can’t forget it on TUESDAY 22nd.

Hope to See you there!

Tony
