TOEIC TEST Advice

castle wall

As to background and format of the tests, please see the ETS website and the following pages:
  1. On test day – what to expect – DO READ THIS – it even tells you to bring 2 x pencils rather than pens plus an eraser!  Be sure you do – or you can’t change your mind about your answers (the test is machine read)
  2. Here is one complete test book to give you a clear idea of the content.
  3. Live tests of various elements of the TOEIC tests (you complete anline and get the answers and your score.  BUT
    1. they give you TWICE the amount of time you get to answer in the real test!
    2. you have to scroll well down the page to get to the block of TOEIC-type tests – those at the top are adverts and take you to other sites.
  4. Some tips:
    1. always leave enough time to go back over Qs you left blank … NEVER leave a question unanswered – there are usually just four options: you have a 25% chance of getting it right if you take a wild guess!!
    2. When it comes to questions about documents…. use your head rather than read the passage four times for four questions : for example, if it asks you what the client wants the company to do, logically it will almost always be at the end of the letter/document…..  If it asks what the client is complaining about, it will almost always be in the beginning/middle and not at the end.
    3. I have more Toeic tips like this on Tonyversity on one simple page.  Have a look.
Generally speaking, entering MICAI with a good level of English and having been taught/learning and writing and presenting in English, one would hope you can go into the test with some confidence, but do try to familiarise yourself with the test format so that you know what to expect at least.  BE aware that the test is quite long and unrelenting – you’ll really need to concentrate!
Good luck, and hope these tips might help. TJ
