Mad World
Crazy story just in from the US
[But then aren’t they all?]
.
A new company floated
On the Market on the 15th July
Saw shares initially valued at $7.80
And now, less than a month later,
They’re trading at $1679!
The company didn’t exist in 2018,
Only generated $25m revenues in 2021
And now has a market capitalisation
Of $310 Billion!
Makes it bigger than CostCo and Shell
Only just short of Walmart and Exxon.
.
No, they haven’t come up with
An instant solution
To our energy or climate change woes
In fact, the company cites
No change in its ‘material circumstances’
Since the July IPO.
In other words, not even they
Have the slightest clue as to the reason.
.
‘Experts’
[As if there are any in the realm of the surreal]
Seem to be explaining it
As a case of Lemmings
Heading over the quick-buck cliff
At the pied-piping
Of online messages gone viral.
‘Buy-in…! Pile-in…!
Buy-in…! Pile-in…!’
…. And it would seem ‘they‘ did! ….
Whoever this ‘they‘ might be..
.
The World Bank records
A 26% energy cost rise
In January to April this year.
That adds a cool $1000
To all of our annual bills
[And that’s just inside our homes
It takes no account of the rising prices
Of everything we consume –
All those things require energy too:
Extraction… Production… Transportation…!]
.
The artificial [gamble-only] ‘value‘
Of that one company alone could pay
Those real, extra, energy costs
For just about every household in
The US and all EU countries combined!
.
With the effect of the war in the Ukraine,
Current best estimates suggest that
Oil corporation profits
Will be up by at least 70%
[What’s the old adage?
It’s an ill wind that blows nobody any good].
Theoretically, these windfalls could perhaps
Wipe out the annual energy-cost increases
Faced by the rest of the world’s households.
.
Instead, the majority of these profits
Are almost certainly going to remain
In the bottomless pockets
Of stinking-rich shareholders.
.
Tears for Fears had it right:
It really is a ‘Mad World’.
They’re making the little man ‘Eat Cake‘.
Have a care with the Camel’s Back:
[That proved to be a strategy
For system-extinction once before…]
… The next straw just might be the last …
