Creature of Habit
Creature of Habit
Tony Jolley 11/08/2022
This Crow’s a creature of habit.
Every morning, to the minute
It comes to the top chimney pot
On our neighbours’ house
And cleans and preens itself
With its back to my window:
For decency,
Obviously.
.
Then, side-on, first left then right,
It spreads each wing,
Fluffs its feathers
And buries its beak
To seek out those itches
It can’t otherwise scratch.
Facing me;
Looking straight at me,
It caws and kraas
[Apparently that’s what Crows do if they’re not caw-ing].
Four times
[Never more – never less]
Before falling gracefully into the air
And doing what man can only dream of.
.
… As I write it’s just taken up its post …
