AI/IA Artificial Intelligence or Automatic Inability?

Now there’s another AI for you!! This time last year  AI / Chat GPT and all the other derivitives had not been made openly available.  They came online in October. Since this date universities  have seen a massive rise in work being substantially (and more often than not entirely) produced using thse tools. To your teachers, your Exam Board, your Faculty and your University, it is an ‘Alarme Incendie’ which takes you to the ‘Sortie’: It represents a shortcut… yes… (but not the one you might be thinking of: a shortcut to a time-saving assignment submission; but rather to being instantly and definitively ‘shown the sortie‘ and failing an...

Hi there! Hereunder you will find some important feedback from your exercise presenting yourself to your new employer in the form of a 'Personal Profile'. Please READ this, commit to memory and USE this in your future work/English conversations as soon as you can: once you USE it you OWN it and it will come naturally in future. OK? I WILL go over this in class….. Tutor's observations: I set this up as a professional exercise and was expecting a professional response, yet I think only three people actually produced something using a PC: why?  If your boss asked you to produce something for the company magazine or website,...

  Q. Why this place?   A. Because footprints and sweat from our bodies are slowly destroying the place… So what impact are we having on our planet and our fellow man (and woman)….?     The four things I asked you to find out by doing the two footprint tests indicated were:   1.  How much CO2 in tons do you personally release into the atmosphere?  TJ 9 2.7 + 10,8 +  9,8 + 8.2 + 9.2 + 10,8 + 12.7 + 15.8 + 13.1 + 9.3 + 10.2 + 10.3 + 8.0 + 12.1 + 10.7 + 9.1 + 13.5  AV = 10.4 Tons  (Target maximum = 10.5) 2.  How many planets would we need if...

GEPSAC Creativity Definitions

I asked you to come up with definitions of ‘creativity’ …  here is what I have received thus far: Sean, Julia, Sandrine & Lucie offer us the following. (I Have put things in italics where I think there is something further to discuss.  I may have changed a word or two for correction’s sake, but I have changed nothing of the sense of our authors.) Creativity is a channel by which our aspirations become ideas & projects thanks to our senses. There are a lot of possibilities to bring into being an ambition or an artistic idea. It’s like gestation. Creativity for us is like being stuck in a traffic jam, you struggle to find a way out,...

Citation should attribute these definitions to a team of third year Communication and Media Studies students at the University of Haute Alsace (France) in 2019/2020 academic year, working with their teacher, Tony...

Welcome… to the AES Sustainability Solutions Session!   The story so far: we all undertook a range of Carbon Footprint tests which suggested that we are living beyond the planet’s means to support us: the group average is of a need for 4.4 Planet Earths if everyone were to live like us (French and UK average is 3 planets) on average we each generate about 12,5 tonnes of CO2 – whereas the 2020 target to keep temperature rise under 2° is 10,5 tonnes per person. we are on average about 15-20% above all the 2020 targets the world has set. (These targets are NOT ambitious ones). our average Earth Overshoot Day (when we run out of our nominally alloted personal share of annual resources) is mid April – we are effectively in debt to the planet for the rest of the year and borrowing ahead from our children. I used to think the UK (my home for some 40 years) was a haven of reasonableness and common sense where the middle ground and gentle compromise had become an art form.  Now, however, this whole Brexit débacle seems to have thrown all that ‘baby’ out with the bathwater. Where did this Brexit come from?  I think it is generally recognised that Prime Minister Cameron wanted his Euroskeptics off his back, so he offered a referendum on Europe to confirm without a shadow of a doubt his control over his own party and to shut up the skeptiks.  Perhaps that is why we were given such a stupid referendum choice: Yes or No – Cameron was certain it would be a YES.  On such an issue a small, simple majority would decide…. without knowing the terms of the deal and upon pre-referendum assumption and disinformation.  Just a few voices...

We considered our lives (starting with a range of carbon footprint and food footprint tests and research) to get a ‘feel’ for our personal impact upon the Earth.  We went into it thinking that we weren’t being excessive really in our consumption choices.  We might not be sustainability warriors, if you like, but we couldn’t possibly be that bad, could we??? Well we could, sadly.  Averaging out our results gives us this kind of picture: if everyone lived like us, we’d need about 4 x PLANETS to meet our needs (but we only have the ONE!)  The national average for France and the UK is about 3 x Planets, by the way. If we all shared things equally we should be able to...

Step 1 : Define Fake News Fake news is an output of human nature (and has always been so) which produces problems in the perception and interpretation of information because such information has been subtly ‘manipulated’ and distanced from the truth. It has been particularly in evidence since the run up to the Trump election. The problem is exacerbated by the growth of social media and ICT by which people may be easily encouraged to believe and act upon information which is deliberately intended to mislead and exert influence upon the reader to the calculated advantage of the originator, purveyor of such disinformation or other individual or organization. • Its use constitutes a ‘weapon’ which results in winners and losers [Clinton vs Trump election].
